Chatham Artillery Punch Background
The Chatham Artillery is the oldest military organization of record in Georgia, established in 1786. The punch was undoubtedly created for celebrations such as the launching of S.S. Savannah, the first steamship to cross the Atlantic in 1819. Rumors tell that the punch started off as a light cocktail, but overtime, officers added this and that until it became Savannah’s most noted drink in two centuries!
